FAMILY PROGRAMS

There are many different options for communal programs. Please contact me directly if you are interested in a more complete description or would like me a visiting Rabbi Artist in Residence.

PROGRAMS FOR FAMILIES

  • WIMPLE WORKSHOP: This could be used as a family program for B'nai mitzvah preparation or for young couples. Define Wimple as a traditional item used to tie a Sefer Torah, to clothe a baby during a bris or baby naming and to connect a chuppah during a wedding ceremony. When a family creates a Wimple together, they make something that requires partnership and symbolizes continuity and committment.
This program would involve the family batik painting on silk with wax and ink. The program lasts approximately 2 hours and costs approximately $30 a family.

  • WALKABOUT-TALKABOUT: This can be used with any age group. This project begins with a nature walk. Families are asked to pretend that one another is a camera. One individual moves a person with their eyes closed to a given beautiful spot on a trail and asks them to open their eyes for 3 seconds, taking a visual "snap shot". This happens for a few minutes, then "camera" and "photographer" change places. There will also be a moment of meditation. Along this walk families are asked to collect objects of interests to them and place them in a bag. They are told nothing about the meaning of these items. Upon their return the found items are displayed alongside mini canvases and india ink pots. The items are their brushes. Some people may choose to draw the snapshots that they saw on their walk, others will draw to capture the majesty that stems from drawing with a stick or a pinecone. After 10 minutes, colored pastels are introduced for more control. We reflect on the process together afterwards.
This program takes anywhere from 2 to 3 hours and costs approximately $15 a person.
